Replicate the Magic House Rice Blend (1 Part Jasmine, 2 Parts Long Grain)
A simple white rice blend we use for almost everything at home, made from 1 part jasmine rice and 2 parts long grain white rice. Jasmine adds aroma, long grain keeps the texture fluffy, and the blend behaves like an easy “house rice” for stir fry, curry, and weeknight dinners.

- 1 cup jasmine rice uncooked
- 2 cups long grain white rice uncooked
Add the jasmine rice and long grain white rice to a large mixing bowl or container.
Stir the rice together until the grains look evenly mixed, with no pockets of just one type.
Transfer the blended rice to an airtight jar or container for storage. Label it as “House Rice Blend” if you like.
To use, measure this blend exactly as you would regular white rice. Rinse before cooking, then cook with your preferred method.
For our rice cookers, we usually use 1 part rice blend to 1.5 parts water. For the stovetop, we typically use about 1¼ cups water for every 1 cup of the rice blend. Adjust slightly based on your equipment and texture preference.
This “House Rice” blend is the result of us chasing that restaurant style white rice we kept loving at Chinese spots, then testing different ratios of jasmine and long grain at home until it finally clicked. The jasmine brings the aroma and gentle buttery flavor, the long grain keeps the grains fluffy and separate, so the 1 part jasmine to 2 parts long grain ratio feels balanced instead of perfumey or bland. We rinse the blend before cooking, then usually use about 1¼ cups water per 1 cup of rice blend on the stovetop, or 1 part rice to 1.5 parts water in our rice cookers.
Our current favorite machine is the Instant Pot 20 Cup Rice Cooker [Affiliate Link] (with its “carb reducing” setup that leaves starchy water underneath), which we are still a bit skeptical of nutritionally, but it makes this blend turn out perfectly for our normal 3 cup batches. Use this mix as your default side for stir fry, curry, sheet pan dinners, and fried rice, and adjust the water slightly until it feels like your own house rice.
